1. Republican state legislators in North Carolina have sponsored a bill which would establish a state religion. It's called -- get ready -- the "Defense of Religion Act."
What, you ask, about the Constitution? Well, these North Carolina Republicans have decided that they don't need no stinkin' Constitution:
Warren and Ford’s bill would declare that North Carolina is “sovereign” and any court ruling about religion is nullified by the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.2. In Virginia, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli wants to reinstate a law which makes oral or anal sex a crime.
“The North Carolina General Assembly asserts that the Constitution of the United States of America does not prohibit states or their subsidiaries from making laws respecting an establishment of religion,” the bill states.
“The North Carolina General Assembly does not recognize federal court rulings which prohibit and otherwise regulate the State of North Carolina, its public schools or any political subdivisions of the State from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.”
The immediate reason for this course of action is a case involving an adult male who talked a 17 year old girl into giving him a blowjob. Cuccinelli wants this man prosecuted under a "criminal solicitation" statute, which makes it a felony to ask the underaged to participate in a crime.
