King's speech

Posted on 17:02 by Unknown
File this one under "Woah!" By now, everyone knows that Chris Christie got super-pissed off when Boehner wouldn't allow aid for Hurricane Sandy victims to come up for a vote. But did you read what New York Republican Peter King had to say?
"Boehner is the one," the New York Republican explained. "He walked off the floor. He refused to tell us why. He refused to give us any indication or warning whatsoever... I'm just saying, these people have no problem finding New York -- these Republicans -- when they're trying to raise money. They raise millions of dollars in New York City and New Jersey, they sent Gov. [Chris] Christie around the country raising millions of dollars for them. I'm saying, anyone from New York and New Jersey who contributes one penny to the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee should have their head examined. I would not give one penny to these people based on what they did to us last night."
King then went on to give strong hints (to CNN's Victor Blackwell) that he just might have to leave the Republican party.

"I would not give one penny..." You know, I've never heard a politician from either party use that kind of language. Dropping the $.01 bomb hurts more than dropping an F bomb. Correct me if I'm wrong, but does King's rebellion have any precedent?

Turns out Boehner, chastened by King's speech, belatedly decided to have a vote on Sandy, and suddenly the NY congressman wants to let bygones be bygones. Still, this spat shows us the tensions within the GOP. Within the Republican Monster House, King isn't a Dr. Frankenstein -- he's just an Igor. If one of your Igors gets this rowdy and impudent, you're doing a lousy job of running the Monster House.
