"The truth is, the next election has already been decided. Obama is going to win. It's nearly impossible to beat an incumbent president," advertiser Porter Stansberry wrote in the email to Gingrich supporters. "What's actually at stake right now is whether or not he will have a third-term."
How did Gingrich gain a reputation as some sort of conservative intellectual? His audience clearly includes many lower primates who never heard of the 22nd amendment.
The idea that Obama can somehow do an end run around that amendment has received a great deal of circulation in conservative circles. A rather naive friend received an email warning of that possibility some months ago. I assured her that the 22nd amendment contains an exception that applied only to the president holding the office at the time of ratification, Harry Truman.
Nevertheless, the meme circulates throughout blogistan right. Consider these pearls of wisdom offered by the Ron Paultards (in response to the Gingrich email noted above):
I wouldn't be surprised....the natural born citizen clause of the Constitution didn't stop him from becoming president....why would the 22nd amendment stop him in 2016 should he win re-election?
Hopefully, polio kills him off like the last tyrant.
Almost any fool can see that although he will serve a second term, a third term for Obama is not possible unless he produces the his real birth certificate showing his real name, Barry Soetoro. As Miguel Ferrer once said in Twin Peaks: "Look. It's trying to think!" Just when did Libertarianism and the lower forms of conspiranoia become so closely intertwined?
It does not matter if it says USA or Kenya because that's no longer a requirement to become POTUS. The candidate just needs to be born naturally (and BTW, no test tube babies need apply unless they are also at least 35 years of age).
The electronic voting machines (to be used in the 2016 primary) will be pre-programmed to allow only Arnold Schwarzenegger and Barry Soetoro to appear on the POTUS ballot in November of 2016.
Whoever wins in 2016 will then serve two full terms.
A happy reminder: Non-insane conservatives do exist. I wish I had discovered this guy earlier. I don't necessarily agree with him, but it's nice to know that there are people on the other side who aren't wacky hillbillies who think that reality is a conspiracy against Jesus.
